The Vilas County Alternative Transportation (Bike\Ped) Plan is the centerpiece of VASSA’s activities. The Plan was created by the North Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission with input from VASSA and other Vilas trail organizations. The plan was adopted by the Vilas County Board on Sept. 20, 2011. As the Plan is an evolving document, VASSA seeks to engage municipalities, trail groups, and citizens in it’s continued development.

Links to the adopted Plan’s map and narrative can be found on the Maps page or more directly by using the links below. These are large files from 2-5 MB. and will take some time to open or download on slower connections:

Blaze The Trail!!!

VASSA Bids Piel Farewell, Welcomes Burzinski

VASSA’s 2nd annual meeting saw changes in the makeup of the board as Director Alan Piel of Wilderness Lakes Trails relinquished his seat after a year of service. VASSA thanks Alan for his service and honors his commitment to trail creation in the Northeastern Vilas - Michigan borderlands area.

To VASSA’s good fortune, Vilas County Tourism and Publicity Director Cindy Burzinski expressed interest in serving. Whith Alan’s seat still warm, the board moved to adopt Cindy as a director at it’s Jan. 11, 2012 meeting. Thank you, Cindy, and welcome aboard!

Website Changes

As of Sept. 9, 2011 we are removing the both the NewsCycle blog and the Events Calendar from the website. This is in an effort to reduce the amount of website maintenance and updates. The change will allow us to focus our efforts on other priorities more directly related to trail development. We apologize if you enjoyed or made use of those features. Any timely announcements or other news will now be found in this space. Information regarding particular upcoming events will also be found on this page either in this “Announcements” column” or a separate notice. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

County Approves Bike Ped Plan

On Sept 20th, 2011 the Vilas County Board of Supervisors adopted the Alternative Transportation Plan. The Plan was created by the North Central Regional Planning Commission. VASSA was responsible for initiating it’s creation as well as facilitating it’s development. Before the Plan could be adopted by the County it had to be approved by both the Vilas Forestry and Highways committees.

The Plan’s adoption is VASSA’s most significant milestone to date. Kudo’s to NCWRPC, VASSA, and all trail groups that have participated. Special thanks to Mike Robillard (VASSA) and Darryl Landau (NCWRPC).

Eliciting input, evolving, and promoting the trail plan is expected to be a priority among VASSA’s activities in 2012 and beyond.
